WEYMANN STYLE 85 TENOR BANJO

Made in Philadelphia in 1928 (serial number 44563) this is a professional grade  well-made banjo, with Weymann's customary quality and attention to detail evident.  This a good example of why I like vintage banjos so much. It has a very interesting construction with a rod and spun metal tone ring on top of an integral rim/resonator. The hooks which hold the head on run through the resonator so that you can tune the head without having to remove the resonator. In the 1920s banjos had skin heads which were affected by heat and humidity requiring 'on the fly' adjustment of the head often midway through performances. With today's mylar heads that is not longer necessary but it's still a neat solution. Another unusual feature is the neck adjustment nut at the neck/rim joint. All original  with a Waverly tailpiece and the cool Weymann flush fitting tuning pegs. It's a very decorative banjo with a  four piece flange, lovely inlays on the fretboard and inlaid Weymann logo on the headstock.  Comes with a period case which could be original but I can't be sure. Price: £600
