KAY TENOR BANJO                                                                                                                                                                                        15 Photos

This very nice standard scale 19 fret tenor banjo was manufactured in the USA  probably in the 1950's.  The Stromberg Voisinet company became Kay in 1931 and produced banjos until 1968 when the name was sold to the far east. This one is clearly Kay's response to the Vega Vox banjo with it's deep Vega Vox style resonator, block mop inlays on the fret board and the Art Deco inspired design of the headstock.  It's all original except for a new 'no knot' tailpiece and three replaced hooks. (hidden under the armrest)  . It features original Kluson tuners, a heavy flange and smooth top Remo head. This is a very pleasant sounding banjo. There is a tatty case with it which will protect it for transit but frankly it's not good enough for anything else. I can supply a brand new semi hard gig bag/case for an extra £40 if desired.  Price: £395   (or £435 with the semi hard bag/case)

If you look very closely at the photo showing the tuners you may be able to see two vertical lines which could be construed as cracks - they are not. They are the lines where the two 'ears ' are fixed during manufacture. The lines are in the finish only, the headstock is firm and sound.  Just thought I'd clear that up in case you were wondering. I always endeavour to describe the instruments accurately.
